Purpose The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) Use of Force, Intervention, and De-escalation (UFID) Committee, in collaboration with the RCMP, are looking to identify law enforcement agencies willing to share current policies/standards related to use of force as part of a national review. The goal of the review is to identify common elements, areas of alignment, as well as differences in policies across Canadian law enforcement agencies to support the development of national guidelines that promote consistency, public trust and confidence, and that the CACP can potentially endorse as model policies, available to agencies to adopt or adapt, should they wish. Your support and information will be critical for examining the current industry standards for use of force in Canada and are aligned with the Minister of Public Safety’s mandate letter commitments. Your participation is appreciated.
Survey You will be asked to complete a few questions about your agency and its willingness to share relevant use-of-force documents. If your agency is willing, you will be asked to provide a contact email for follow-up by the UFID Secretariat (RCMP Operational Research Unit) to coordinate document sharing in a way that is convenient, secure, and appropriate for your agency. The survey will take approximately 3 to 5 minutes to complete.
Confidentiality Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. However, your input will be beneficial in examining the current industry standards for use of force in law enforcement in Canada. All received policies/standards will remain strictly confidential, appropriately safeguarded, and will only be available to the UFID and RCMP Operational Research Unit for this project. At the end of the survey, you will have the option to select if you would like your agency named and its contribution highlighted in any reports, presentations, or products produced.
